Andaman Islands are a group of islands in the Bay of Bengal. There are 572 islands in the territory in which 38 are permanently inhabited. There are roughly 300 islands which are known for their palm-lined, white-sand beaches, mangroves and tropical rainforest. The Islands are popular scuba diving and snorkeling some of the islands are remote area where the visitor’s entry is prohibited.
Cellular jail is located in port Blair, the capital city of Andaman and Nicobar Island. It has a dark long past experience of the British rule. This jail is also known as Kalapani. Kala means death or time and Pani means water (in Sanskrit). Freedom fighters like Batukeshwar Duty and Veer Savarkar being imprison in this jail. The foundation of the jail was laid in 1896.hundreds Indian lovers were sent to the island where they remained under the custody of jailer David Barry and military doctor Major James Pattison Walker. Some of the prisoners tried to escape from the jail in March 1868 and were caught in April in which 87 were hanged. The prisoners who got feared from the waters of Andaman and being isolated from mainland and there were no way to get rid of the British. The island became a suitable place for the British to punish the freedom fighters. Prisoners were chained and made to do hard work like constructing buildings etc.
Carbyn's cove beach is one of the nearest beaches from Port Blair. On the left side, the way from Port Blair to Carbyn’s cove beach has a beautiful picturesque scene. This beach is one of the most visited Beaches in Andaman. It is very popular for various water sports activities like jet skiing, scuba diving, snorkeling and glass bottom ride. The beach is curved shapes and is surrounded by coconut tree that is dipped in natural beauty. This beach is best for swimming. There are several restaurants, bar, coconut water and you will get a jewellery item which is made up of corals. It is one of the heritage attractions in Andaman. Snake Island is also nearby Carbyn’s cove. The beach is also close to cellular jail. It takes 10mins to reach.
It is just a kilometer away from Port Blair which is an area of 0.8 sq km. It takes 10 minutes from water sports complex, Port Blair. Ross Island is under the control of Indian Navy. The island has past memories like Ballroom, Church, Hospital, Bakery, Press, Chief Commissioner House, Govt. House, Swimming pool and Troop Barracks all are in bad condition. This island remains under British control till 1942. From 1942 to 1945, the island was under the rule of Japanese. Visitors can see various Deer and Peacock.
The beach is located at the southern tip of Andaman Islands. It is 25kms distance from Port Blair and 45mins to reach from Port Blair to Chidiyatapu by the car. This beach is one of the best place to see the sunset. It gives you a sense of relaxation, green mangroves and peaceful forest. This place is perfect for nature lovers. In the evening, one can see a number of birds. Chidiyatapu is also famous for 46 varieties of endemic birds, seasonal orchids and spotted deer. There is one biological park where you will get varieties of flora and fauna.
Wandoor beach is one of the famous beach in Port Blair which lies at a distance of 25 km from Port Blair. The beach is calm and peaceful place to get relaxed. One can see a best view of sunrise and sunset. Visitors can get refreshment facilities, etc. This is one of the best picnic place. Wooden benches are provided where visitors can enjoy the sunbath. Changing rooms and shower facilities are available.
It was established in the year of 1983.Total area of the park is 281.50sq.km. which is located in Wandoor at the distance of 30 km from Port Blair. The national park was established to protect sea turtles, marine lives and the beautiful corals. This park is the ideal destination for the nature lovers. It is the home of birds like white-bellied, Parakeet, sea eagle, Andaman teal, Waders, herons and swifts. There are more than 271 different varieties of birds. The sandy beaches and Crystal water offers fun and pleasure. One can undertake various activities like trekking, island camping, scuba diving and snorkeling. Jolly Buoy and Red Skin islands are the two most popular islands of Mahatma Gandhi National Park and the only islands that can be allowed the tourist.
